This seminar is an intensive master class in Classical Five Element Acupuncture focusing on the foundations of the practice: Patient / Practitioner relationship, Ancient Chinese Cosmology, Diagnosis, and Clinical Strategies. Faculty will investigate these topics through didactic, scholastic, and experiential lenses.
Students will earn 16 Continuing Education Units.
Seminar Objectives
Patient / Practitioner Relationship
How to use meditation to cultivate the required mindset for effective treatment
Improve practitioner ability to diagnose by deepening their understanding of health and pathology through CFEA (Classical Five Element Acupuncture)
Understand responsibility of practitioner to their patient and feel empowered to draw on their training and intuition when treating
Be better able to discuss the appropriate use of cases of acupuncture and western medicine.
Ancient Chinese Cosmology
Learn a foundation of fundamental concepts in Classical Chinese Cosmology and their sources in classical texts
Understand the definition of Qi as described in traditional Chinese medical texts
Understand how the Classical Chinese understood health, in relation to topics like resonance, and Yin / Yang
Understand the process of translation and how to arrive at the intended meaning behind translations
Diagnosis and Clinical Strategies
Know the physical, mental and spiritual functions of the element wood
Understand the relationship between identifying health and pathology in nature and in patients
Understand how to treat wood function pathologies
Learn specific strategies for using wood points

Day 1 - May 4th, 2019

Introductions: an introduction to the basic principles of Classical Five Element Acupuncture, introduce the essential map of Classical Five Element Acupuncture - The Laws of Nature
10 AM — 12:30 PM
What is health - A panel discussion format where faculty share their experiences and perspectives of health and Classical Five Element Acupuncture
1:30 PM — 2:30 PM
Moving from Mind to Heart: A discussion and definition of Qi by expert sinologist Elisabeth Rochat
2:30 PM — 3:30 PM
Our Current Worldview: Peggy Arent, LAc, discusses the core similarities and differences between CFEA and allopathic approaches to healthcare practices.
3:30 PM — 5 PM
Classical Chinese Understanding of Health: Elisabeth Rochat presents a close investigation of health in the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic and Select Ancient Chinese Texts
Day 2 - May 5th, 2018
9 am — 11 am
Discussion lead by Peggy and Elisabeth: Personal challenges and Review of Material. Review with students the materials covered in the day and relate it to their own practices as practitioners and students. Discussion of what it means to be a healer
11 AM — 1:30 PM
Introduction and Review of material covered in Day 1 lead by Peggy Arent, LAc and Elisabeth Rochat. An overview of the previous day and focus on the lenses used to identify pathology and use of safe and appropriate methods of intervention
2:30 PM — 5:00 PM
The Wood Element as a Manifestation of Nature: Using the Wood element and the season to investigate health and pathology. Specific examples of the element wood, the physical, mental and spiritual functions of wood. Lead by Peggy Arent, LAc.
Event Admission
This seminar is an intensive master class in Classical Five Element Acupuncture focusing on the foundations of the practice: Patient / Practitioner relationship, Ancient Chinese Cosmology, Diagnosis, and Clinical Strategies. Seasonal fresh snacks and lunch provided as part of the study of the element wood.
This fee covers the cost of one seminar attendee for May 4th and 5th 2019.
